High PR links are shite

High PR links are shite

Or more accurately why links from a Low PR page are more beneficial then links from a High PR page.

On the site and on the blogosphere as a whole it is seen as gospel that links coming in to the site are good. The higher the PR of the page the more beneficial it is. I say not.

For the purpose of this article I am concentrating on sites and blogs that have do-follow enabled in their comment section.

Though before I elaborate on the crux of the matter I feel a small rehash of the Page Rank algorithm is necessary.

Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. Google looks not only at the volume of votes; among 100 other aspects it also analyses the page that casts the vote.

Now logically it would seem that if Google look at the page that casts the vote therefore the higher the PR of the page the beneficial it is?

Again we must look in detail at the Google algorithm.

Now no-one really knows how it actually works but we can make educated guesses. One set equation for PR as is as follows:

PR(A) = (1-d) + d(PR(t1)/C(t1) + …+ PR(tn)/C(tn)).

What does this mean?

‘t1-tn’ are pages linking to page A, C is the number of outbound links that a page has and ‘d’ is a damping factor, usually set to 0.85.

You whizzes out there may be thinking now ‘ahhh i get it now,’ for the other humans out there like me! I’ll try and explain.

What it basically means what you PR is derived from other pages linking to you (as established before), and each link passes a certain amount to you. Now the amount is passes is worked out as:

The page PR x 0.85 / out going links

Therefore the more links on a page = less ‘PR juice’ passed to each one.

So this lending credence to my initial point as the high ‘do-follow’ pages will be bombarded with comments as so to ‘milk it’ while the lower PR4/3 etc are not so much. Therefore the lower PR pages with 10 comments will be passing more ‘juice’ to you then a higher PR page with 100.

Here endeth my interpretation.

flash index crawl search engine

Adobe announces that flash can now be indexed by search engines

Up to this moment. all Flash driven websites and Flash widgets out in the web are not search engine friendly. that means that in terms of SEO and SEP. all of that is invisible. but soon it will be very visible

Adobe has announced that they have released a SWF file specification to make possible for search engines to read the text and identify the text in Flash files. This don`t means all Flash will be indexed. just the most obvious and important parts. this will allow flash files to be identified and indexable by search engines.

FLV files are not included into this new searchable flash future at the moment.

Google say it is ready to go

Google has already entered into the fry with this new SWF file specification and have developed a algorithm just for it that should start running very soon. they have also provided a FAQ for what this all means:

Improved Flash indexing via Google Search Blog

Adobe has also said that Yahoo will be using that new specification soon. and also enhances that this makes the future of RIA web even better, etc.

What About of Flash Widgets?

In the term of Widgets this is going to be a big thing too. Widgets getting SEO and SEP friendly can generate interesting scenarios where if you search for “Media player widget” in a search engine. you will be greeted with the page for widgets like that in the first page of results and that pretty much all the results in a first page can get to lead to widget pages depending the case. that enhance the theory of the “Website in a widget” theory. This is because now the flash files can carry text and keywords for the search engine to identify and even get associate a widget with a page. install widget pages would then turn the main search result depending on the widget popularity. at least that would be the best possible scenario.
